Nigeria British Author Jackie Kay To Judge At UK National Poetry Competition

It's been confirmed that Nigeria British Author Jackie Kay (MBE) will be one of three Judges at this year's National Poetry Competition, which is now open for entries online. The other judges are Colette Bryce and John Glenday.

The UK Poetry Society's National Poetry Competition is one of the world's biggest and most prestigious poetry competitions. Winners include both established and emerging poets, and for many, the prize has proved an important milestone in their careers.
This year's prizes are: £5000 for 1st place, £2,000 for 2nd place, £1,000 for 3rd place and seven commendations of £100 each. The three top positions will also be published in Poetry Review.

Born in Glasgow in 1961 to a Scottish mother and a Nigerian father, Jackie Kay studied English at the University of Stirling and published her first book of poetry, "The Adoption Papers", in 1991. She has since published several more highly acclaimed works, including three poems used in the GCSE Edexcel Syllabus -- Brendon Gallacher, Lucozade and Yellow.
She became a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in June 2006, and is currently Professor of Creative Writing at Newcastle University.
