It was a night for the stars, as African war drama "Beasts of No Nation" premiered saturday in Lagos, Nigeria, with the movie's stars Idris Elba and Abraham Attah live at the event. The premiere happened at the Silverbird Galleria and also had superstars Genevieve Nnaji, D'banj, Juliet Ibrahim – among others – in attendance. (continues below... )
"Beasts of No Nation", is a story about a young boy's struggles to survive as his country goes through a terrible civil war. It is based on a novel by Uzodinma Iweala - son of former Finance Minister of Nigeria, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. In the movie, Abraham Attah plays young "Agu", the central role in the movie, while Idris Elba plays "Commandant" – Agu's battalion leader.
The movie, directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga was first screened at the 72nd Venice International Film Festival in September, where it won the Marcello Mastroianni Award. The theme "Beasts of No Nation" is a tribute to the popular political music album of the same name, by late Afrobeat legend – Fela Anikulapo Kuti.
Idris Elba is one of Africa's most outstanding international actors, famous for his blockbuster roles in several movies including: "The wire", "Pacific Rim", "Prometheus" and the "Thor" franchise. Also a musician, he is one of a few people rumored for the role of the first black James Bond.
