Is Kenyan model Ajuma Nasenyana venturing into the film industry? It seems so, at least in this one fashion film. The modeling icon makes her debut in "To Catch a dream", a collaborative project between Nest Collective and Chico Leco fashion houses. (continues below... )
The short fashion film written by Jim Chuchu and produced by Wangechi Ngugi takes viewers through a journey of designs by eight Kenyan designers namely Adele Dejak, Ann McCreath,Namnyak Odupoy, Kepha Maina,Jamil and Azra Walji, Katungulu Mwenda and Ami Doshi.
Ajuma Nasenyana stars a widow,who encounters many challenges in a bid to conquer her nightmares.
The model is one of the most successful African models. Her modeling talent was first recognized in 2003 when she won Miss Tourism Nairobi. She was later picked by Ford models foundation and went to debut her international career in France. Since then she has walked international runways alongside supermodels Naomi Campbell, Tyra Banks and Sudanese super model Alek Awek.
Apart from promoting fashion and modeling initiatives in Africa, Ajuma Nasenyana is a strong advocate for dark skin as a symbol of beauty. She hopes to soon launch skincare and beauty products for dark skinned women which she hopes will inspire women such women to appreciate their skin tones instead of turning to skin lightening creams.
