Hollywood animation house Laika, this Monday announced Charlize Theron as part of their new animated film; “Kubo and the Two Strings.” The South African superstar actress will voice the animated picture alongside Hollywood A-listers Matthew McConaughey, Rooney Mara, and Ralph Fiennes. The film is directed by Travis Knight, an Annie Award-winning animator who worked on “Coraline” and “ParaNorman”. Kubo, will be his directorial debut. (continues below... )
In addition to the all-star voice cast, Charlize Theron gets to work with Brenda Vaccaro and Art Parkinson (“Game of Thrones”) who voices the title character Kubo. Although Laika CEO Travis Knight did not announce the role of Charlize Theron, fans expect a star studded performance from her. The film is set to debut on August 19th, 2015.
From an original screenplay by Marc Haimes and Chris Butler (“ParaNorman”), 'Kubo' is a captivating adventure set in a mythical ancient Japan. It is being brought to life at Laika’s Oregon studios via the company’s innovative 3D stop-motion and CG hybrid technique.
In the film, a kindhearted Kubo ekes out a humble living while devotedly caring for his mother in their sleepy shore-side village. It is a quiet existence—until a spirit from the past catches up with him to enforce an age-old vendetta. Kubo’s chance for survival rests on finding the magical suit of armor once worn by his fallen father, the greatest samurai the world has ever known.
