With a "selfie" photo posted on Twitter, South African Hollywood actress Charlize Theron announced her support for Pieter-Dirk Uys call for open public funds accountancy. (continues below... )
Pieter-Dirk Uys, a South African Satirist, launched a twitter campaign last week with the hash tag #CommitYourselfie that called on South African’s to post pictures on social media holding up a sign with the hash tag in a bid to call on the government to make records on public spending available to the public.
The campaign is aimed at build transparency on how public funds are spent in order to prevent cases of corruption and misuse of public funds by government officials. Uys was delighted by Charlize Theron’s support to the campaign calling her a true patriot.
Charlize Theron has spearheaded many charitable and civil rights campaigns in Africa. The Oscar winning actress has largely been part of HIV/AIDS initiatives in her country South Africa and supported similar initiatiatives across Africa through her project Charlize Theron Africa outreach.
