Hollywood actor Idris Elba together with a host of international footballers recently launched a public awareness campaign to support people affected by Ebola in West Africa. (continues below... )
Part Sierra Leonean, part Ghanaian, Idris Elba teamed up with Yaya Toure, Carlton Cole, Patrick Vieira and Fabrice Muamba to launch the Africa United campaign that is expected to raise awareness of the deadly disease, and recognize the health workers who are doing their part to fight the virus in west Africa.
The campaign was launched at the official draw for the 2015 Orange Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea's capital, Malabo.
Speaking at the event, Idris Elba stated that for him, the fight against Ebola was a personal one. He added that he had been devastated to see those amazing countries in West Africa where his father grew up and his parents married, being ravaged by the disease, and described it as painful and horrific.
The campaign supports broadcast of vital information in French, English, Krio and other local languages in a bid to help stop the disease from spreading.
Idris Elba is a brilliant actor known for his great physique and outstanding roles in several blockbuster TV series, and hollywood movies including, The Wire, Thor 1 & 2, Nelson Mandela in the biopic Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, and most recently "No good deed".
