He surpassed competition from other African greats including Gabonese Pierre –Emerick Aubameyang as well as Lille goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama, to take home the Confederation of African Football (CAF) prized title yesterday in Lagos.
During his acceptance speech Yaya Toure expressed his appreciation to CAF for the honors and dedicated his title to his late brother whom he lost to cancer last year. He also went on his Twitter to broad cast to fans:
"I feel so blessed! I thank all my fans! Nothing would have been possible without you! This one is for you! "
The soft spoken Manchester city forward is known for his exemplary performance in the English premiere league since joining the English side in 2010. He has previously played for Beveren in Belgium, Metalurh in Ukraine , AS Monaco in France FC Barcelona before moving to the English team.
Young Yaya Touré loved playing football from the day he could run. He made a career in football when he joined an Ivory Coast based club ASEC Mimosa at age of 19. There, he caught the European clubs where he has grown as an international footballer.
He represented Ivory Coast national team in both 2010 and 2014 World cup tournaments and diligently made several appearances for his national team in the continental African cup of Nations over the years. Congratulations to Yaya Toure!
